My Thoughts :

It's the story about a pregnant woman, portrayed by vidya Balan, who comes to kolkata in search of her husband. Her husband came to India for a mission and suddenly went missing. This movies proves that the script of the movie can be the hero. I loved the story, it started with steady pace and after sometime it caught its fast pace, then ended with an unexpected twist.

[I'll be showcasing movies, which touched my heart, and giving my thoughts on them.]

My Thoughts :

Whenever I think of rom-com Bollywood movies, this movie comes to mind first. The character Geet, portrayed by kareena made this movie a huge success. Geet is known for her carefree attitude and free spirited personality. She believes in taking risks and talking her heart out. What I learnt from her? Well, everything! First, how to be my favorite person. Second, If you feel like talking then don't care for the audience. Third, Don't forget your social duties. The cute couple of this movie made the romance more mesmerizing. I've watched this movie over ten times and not a single time I got bored.

My Thoughts :

A simple yet striking story about a boy, whose mother left him to work on a road side eatery. He draws inspiration from India's former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. I loved the realistic approach of the movie and the powerful acting of all the casts. Some of the scenes will leave you spell bounded. This movie won several awards and a high recommendation from critics.

Director : Vishal Bhardwaj

[I'll be showcasing movies, which touched my heart, and giving my thoughts on them.]

My Thoughts :

This movie is the Indian adaptation of hamlet. One of the career milestone movie by Shahid, this movie can distress critics but it mayn't interest Indian audience much. This is a tale of anger, loyalty, betrayal, pain and the man torn in between all these emotions. All the scenes and screenplay are mesmerizingly beautiful. The movie set in beautiful yet troubled Kashmir.

My Thoughts :

I've a special place in my heart for comedy movies. You'll fall for this movie from the first scene; comedy dialog, hilarious situations, the comic timing of all the actors and the flying cars. This is one of those few serial movies whose every part I liked. All the actors were great in their roles, so can't compare. I'm waiting for the future installment of this Golmaal series i.e. Golmaal 4.

My Thoughts :

One of the finest acting movie by all its casts. Fashion is the story about how a small town girl lay her foot in fashion industry; her ups and downs and an insight to the fashion industry. The main thing what I learned from this movie is "We're what we choose to become". This movie is one of the both critically as well as commercially successful movies.

My Thoughts :

One of the nicest movie I've watched. This movie was the milestone in Ritesh's film career; he played the role of antagonist. Shradha looked cute with her talkative character and Sidharth was intense through out the movie. I liked its unique story-line though it was the adaptation of some Korean movie. All the songs of this movie added more flavors to the success of the movie.

I loved this crazy family who have personal issues yet they show themselves as perfect to outsiders. I loved the way Priyanka broke all her obstacles and overcome her struggles. I was sad as Farhan's part was small. And the most important think I loved Amir khan's narration for this movie.

SURPANAKHA : Book Review

About the Book:

Educated, young, no-nonsense bearing, able administrator—these are the qualities that won Sesha the loyalties of the people after three years of rule as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. An allegation that he was the mastermind behind the murder of 73 Kannadigas threatens to bring him down but he is miraculously saved in the 11th hour.
Even before he can relish his victory, Sesha is slapped with the charge of sexually offending a young nurse. This time round, the case is strong and his supporters are uncertain. Worse, his teenage daughter calls him 'vile' and walks out of the house. While Mythili, his wife promises her full support, her secretive activities—undertaken with the help of a retired cop—is a cause of concern for Sesha.
Will Zarina, the human-rights activist, succeed in bringing him down? What about the insinuations of a celebrity lawyer that he is casteist and antiminorities? When the young nurse is found dead, the case becomes even more complex. Who is innocent? Who is guilty? And who is the mastermind?

My Review :

At first I was attracted towards this book because of its title. But, don't go y its name as it's a political thriller. I generally don't prefer political thriller, but this one is exceptional. Revenge, power and politics all wrapped in a single unit offered by Hariharan Iyer.

Let me start with plus points; all the characters are well sketched, the story moves with perfect pace and the author has strong grasp over the narration. Sesha is the minister of Tamil Nadu; he has some followers as well as opponents. Yet someone is trying to set him for a crime which he didn't commit. His character was well portrayed.

Now the minus point is the thriller part is somehow missing. After a certain point you'll be able to guess what's happening and what will happen. I'll give this 3.5 out of 5 stars. This book is recommended to all political thriller fans for its strong story-line and well etched out characters.

About the Author:

HariharanIyer is a finance professional based in Dar es Salaam. Not content with just a rewarding corporate job, he took to writing a couple of years back. He blogged on media and current affairs for a year at valadyviews.blogspot.com before hitting on the idea for this novel. An idea so powerful that it convinced the accountant in him that he could put together not just a balance sheet but an intriguing political thriller as well. He has definite views on politics, NGOs and media ethics and has tried to package them in the form of an interesting novel.

Hariharan lives with his wife in Dar es Salaam while his two sons are pursuing their ambitions in India.

CHENNAI EXPRESS: Movie Showcase (#AtoZChallenge)

Release Year : 2013
Directed by : Rohit Shetty
Protagonists : Shahrukh Khan & Deepika Padukone
[I'll be showcasing movies, which touched my heart, and giving my thoughts on them.]

My Thoughts :

I was in my 3rd year of engineering, when I went to watch this movie. Initially, I didn't have much expectation from this one, but it made me hooked from the first scene. There wasn't a second, when I felt bored. Rohit always make his movies for the viewer's entertainment. I loved the unique couple idea of a young south Indian goon's daughter and a 40 year old confectioner (Halwai). There were so many laugh out loud moments and Deepika's performance was praise worthy.

SLEIGHT OF HAND : Book Review

Book Blurb :

The epic Weir Chronicles continues. The rebels poison Ian and it's up to Rayne and Patrick to find a cure before their friend succumbs and Earth's fate is left in the hands of adversaries intent on taking control of the planet. To obtain answers, Rayne must travel to an alternate world where few survive as Patrick unearths the secrets of the rebels and discovers a truth that shatters his beliefs about the Weir and the future of Earth.

My Review:

"Sleight of Hand" is third installment of 'Weir Chronicles'. Here the main protagonist is poisoned and now the duty is on Rayne and Patrik to find the cure. I haven't read the first two books of this series, so it took some time to complete it. I struggled a little from the beginning as initially I was clueless about the characters. But, slowly I completed this book.

The author has strong command over words. I love how the author has portrayed some scenes. Science fiction, action and love wrapped up in a unit. I love the way Sue Duff handled the twists.

I would've liked this book more, if I had read its earlier two parts. I'll give 3 out of 5 stars. This book is recommended to all science fantasy along with thriller fans.

About the Author:

Sue has been writing since high school but never became serious about it until a skiing accident laid her up for an entire summer and she turned on the word processor to combat the boredom. A couple years later, her first urban fantasy novel, Fade to Black, was a finalist in the RMFW Colorado Gold Writing Contest. By day, she’s a dedicated speech-language therapist in an inner city school district.

[I got this book in exchange of an honest review]
