Love Lasts Forever...

Author: Vikrant Khanna
Publisher: Shrishti Publishers & Distributors
Number of Pages: 248
Price [INR] : 150
Genre: Fiction

Ronit falls madly in love with a beautiful girl, Aisha, when he was eighteen and wants to marry her instantly. After her protest for seven years she finally agrees for the marriage. He thought that his love for her will last longer. He has seen the soul mate in her. And they get married.  A week later, he hates his lady love from the bottom of his heart. He doesn't understand why she changed so much.

To escape from her and his messed up married life; he leaves in a ship to work. But his perception about love and life change when he hears the poignant love story of his captain, on a ship. But unfortunately that ship later gets hijacked by the pirates of Somalia.

As they are left fighting for their lives they confront if love truly can last forever...? But does it get too late?

Love lasts forever is a combination of love, humor and ego. It is a quick read for a Sunday afternoon. The language of the book is well-spoken and simple. There are two love stories going on in a parallel motion with different time period and with different generations; one is Ronit’s and the other is Shekhar’s, his captain.  Believe me once you start reading it you can’t keep it away from you. This book clearly gives a chance to reconsider love, commitment as sometimes we don’t get a second chance.

At first I didn’t like Ronit, perhaps due to his perception on women. He even thought of divorcing his wife. But at last I also fall for this character. I like some lines, when he take advice from his friend Joey Sing, “Men go shopping to buy what they want; but women go shopping to know what they want”.

I love the captain’s love story. It was simple yet has the power to shed some tears from people’s eye. You can feel the warmness in captain’s touching story.

The cover of the book is quite attractive, at first glance I also attracted to its cover.

Some of the lines I really liked

“It’s not too hard to keep a woman happy. All they want is your love, care, support, and apparently a good ear”.
“How can someone be so much in love that everything in his life revolves around that person he loves? And why do these feelings never cease, instead flourish with each passing day?”

I will give 3.5 stars out of 5 to this book.

A letter to my cousin

This time blogadda bought a topic to write a letter to someone you miss in this diwali. So I’m writing to my cousin who is two year older than me. We have celebrated most of the diwalis together.

Dear sister,

I hope everything is fine in your house. You must be enjoying Diwali at your home, but I miss the perks of being with you. How is your preparation for bank P.O. exams going on?  You are appearing that exams in the coming month na? So how is uncle and aunt? What are doing in this diwali, I mean anything special?

Ohh! Stupid of me. I’m asking only questions, but you know my curiosity level na. Papa has already brought diyas, sweets and crackers. Mama and I will be doing the rangoli. Today we were deciding the menu for lunch and dinner. I know we have celebrated previous Diwali together and this time it is impossible for you to come here, as your bank exams are coming near.  All the things without you will be incomplete. Remember I will say it again, there is not much time when you walk out of road for a journey to chase your dreams, happiness is the first thing you will need in that time.

Okay you must be thinking in a festive season how can I bore you by giving lectures. I feel a little old after glancing back to past days.  So I will stop here. Listen don’t you dare to eat all the chocolates alone. Stay happy and energetic.

Waiting for your reply
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Yours little sister,
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Appy

A DATE WITH GOD

I tiptoed towards the slanting bridge with a red coated white gown and my red sandal. I have to cross the bridge so that I can reach my destination. But I didn’t know where I’m heading to or why? The only thing I knew was someone is waiting for me.

After I cross the bridge a beautiful classic garden popped up in my view. It was rich in different types flower plants. But what drew my attention were orchid flowers, I love them. As I moved ahead my gaze fell on a white glass table and two chairs placed in the middle of the garden.

I came closer to that table and saw a beautiful man was walking towards me from the other direction; Light beams were coming from him. Wait!!! Did I say beautiful?

“Finally you have come, I was waiting for you.” He stated with a smile on his face. “Umm...hello may I know who are you? And why I’m here?” I was confused at that time and he must have seen it on my face. “Who I’m not important but Arpita Did you forgot we have a date today.”  He threw his hand in air to show me to sit in the chair. I silently followed his command. “Arpita did you wish to score good marks in exams?” I didn’t get his question. “Yes, I mean everybody want it” I said it with a-quite-obvious look. “But if you didn’t work hard and only wish then how can you succeed? You also give up so quickly. May I know why?” He retorted again.

“May be I’m like that, I get depressed by failure. And maybe I’m not getting enough motivation.” I murmured with a sad expression. He extended his hand and lifted my chin up so that we were facing each other. “That’s why I’m here Arpita, to motivate you because life can’t be perfect without motivations. And my dear there is a say that the strongest people aren’t always the people who win, but the people who don’t give up when they lose.”  I saw a twinkle in his eyes when he was explaining things to me.

“What do you want to eat?” his question made me think a little. “Umm...I’m not much of an eater but if you insists then cutlet will be fine.”  It’s because I don’t like vegetables and potato is my one n only favorite veggie. “Cutlet, you eat that daily. Let’s eat salad?” Ohh...GOD how he knew that I eat cutlet daily. “Actually I don’t eat much veggie. So salad is not my liking.” A faint smile crossed across his face. “You are throwing your attitude like a princess. You don’t like vegetables but you know people don’t get vegetables.” He was saying the truth but the truth always hurt more.
“Arpita you are a nice girl. So live as if you were to die tomorrow. And learn as if you were to live forever. We have to hurry up It’s your get up time na?” again he smiled. “But you didn’t tell me who are you?” I asked this time out of curiosity. How did he know so many things about me? “You can call me your well wisher.”

With that the garden started to fade along with the scenery and darkness started to engulf me. I saw my phone was in my hand and an alarm was ringing at 6 pm. I didn’t even realize when that phone came to my hand. “See you soon my well wisher” I shouted aloud.
I opened my eyes and observed my surrounding. It was the same familiar my room and I were in my bed. Was that all a dream? I patted my forearm and thought I had a date with GOD.

LOVE AND HATE

If I look down my life, I can see so many experiences starting from friendship to break up to emotional breakdown.  But that one feeling I never want to forget i.e. Love and Hate.

During my school days I walked home from school with my equally skinny best friend Viviane.  And on our way back we generally talked about Jake. Ahh...Before that let me tell you all that Jake was my sworn enemy or worst enemy. I hated him with my life. Every time Jake and few other friends of his taunted us. They had also invented a thousand ways to make me cry.

My Dad always assured me “they only do that because they like you honey. Cassie you know if you don’t react then only they will stop bothering you.” I didn’t realize at that time that the torture from Jake was actually attention. By the tenth grade I was used to that torture. By that point Jake had moved on to hitting us with water filled balloons.

I had known him for five years but the funny thing was we considered each other friends. I knew he somehow enjoyed my company. When others were not around then he would talk to me. He had taught me how to skeet but he never mentioned it to anyone. He behaved so nice to me in private but he always maintained the tough exterior in front of others. We even held hands on my sixteenth birthday and watched the sunset together.

When I had completed high school, we got into separated universities. On a summer I returned home from my first year of college, I ran into Jake. He was living on his own at that time. I found myself sitting in his apartment. We talked about those years when he bullied me, made me cry and even gave comfort me. After that I asked him, “Did you ever have a crush on me?”

And he responded, “Yes Cassie I had a crush on you the whole time but fear of losing you.”

We shared the love and hate relationship. Even now also I haven’t forgotten that memories.

THE SMILING STRANGER

Imagine the bus stop like this

It was mid September. And Kolkata was much crowed due to upcoming Durga puja. I was waiting for the second bus as I missed the first one due to some work in school. Yes I’m Divya Mukharjee, a school teacher by profession. The breeze blowing on the bridge was the only relief for my exhaustions.

After the waiting of ten more minutes I got my bus. I looked around, as I generally do to observe people, read their faces and capture their vivid expressions. Looking around, I ended up with nothing interesting to invest time in and focus on. I took the window seat and after some time a girl with hazel eyes and smiling face sat beside me.

“So!!! You are from Kolkata?” she was the one to break the silence first. “Yes and you are?”I replied with a smile. “Actually I was born here but I left Kolkata when I was nine year old as my dad shifted to Bangalore. But I’m visiting Kolkata now.” that smile never left from her face.

“By the way I’m Divya.” I extended my hand towards her direction. “Ohh...I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Ruchira” she shook my hand firmly. For the next few minutes we talked about various topics, our professions and our point of view. I was seeing a friend in this stranger.

“So where were you staying before shifting?”I questioned. “My residence was near Barrackpore. So many years have passed and I haven’t gone to that place for quite long.” She added but stopped seeing my reaction. “That’s where I lived and I had been living there for my entire life.” Frankly I was surprised.

Image from google source

Ruchira or Ruchi was my best buddy in school. We used to sit together, play together, and had our Tiffin together. Students were very jealous of our friendship. Everything was picture perfect until her fathers’ transfer news broke on us. We were standard four students at that time and she had to leave in such a hurry that I had not given a chance to properly goodbye her.

May be she didn’t remember me. I was taken aback by the vivid memory. I looked at her and again she was smiling but my stoppage had come. “Umm...bye I have to go. My stoppage has come...see you later or may be again.”

I got down from the bus and headed towards my home when I heard a voice from back “Arre...Divu...won’t you invite me to your home?” I turned back to see Ruchi was huffing and smiling simultaneously. “What did you think that I will not recognize you??? Then let me clear mss Divya Mukharjee I recognized you from the very beginning but pretended not to just to know your reaction. But you...just walk away” she threw her hands in air to show her angriness. “Sorry...It was a surprise for me and...I...didn’t know...what...to...do...” I fumbled a little and tears were finding their way out but I completed my sentence I was hugged by her. We both missed each other and that was our golden memory.

Imagine they hugging each other after so many years....

Sometimes strangers are not strangers....
What happened with me that may be happened with you....?

A STUPID THING CALLED LOVE (#3)

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”

( Note - This is the third chapter of "A stupid thing called love". I will post its chapters in every week, so have patient.... as the story will continue in weekly manner)

For second chapter click chapter 2

Chapter 3

(Apekshya)

It had been five days and I can’t find my Id-card. Rosni had suggested me to reissue another one but it’s a long process that takes around a month. We were sitting in the canteen and having our samosha, when a group of four boys stormed towards us.

Muskan- “Apy your lizard boy is coming over here and I think he’s kindda cute.” I can’t believe muskan said it with a smirk in her face.

Me- “shut up musu” I faced down to hide. I sensed they were standing in front of me. Ohh...no...GOD...Please help me...

Lizard boy- “Look who we are seeing today, Is it you princess???” A devilish smirk played in his face.

I lifted up my head to expose my face. “Come on princes, introduce youself first?” he continued and I have a-can’t-understand-anything-look on my face. “Ohh...you didn’t get it, give your I-N-T-R-O?” Now he looked a little frustrated.

Me- “I am Apekshya Agarwal, From Delhi. I have completed my schooling from st. joshep. I am in electronics and communication branch. My hobbies are um...painting and singing.
I fumbled a little but managed to spill it out.

He gasped at me and remarked “quite a short introduction. I was expecting more but it’s okay...Now I want to ask you some question. First what is your height? You seem quite tall.”

I wide opened my mouth but suddenly closed it. Now everyone was looking at my direction and I hate attention.

Me- “5.5” embarrassment was starting to mount over me.

Lizard Boy- “Hmm...Nice, I don’t like short girls.”

What was he talking about? I was getting confused. I was interrupted from my thought by his next question.

Lizard Boy- “So what is your weight?”

Rosni- “hey you can’t ask a girl about her weight? You don’t have any manner or what?”

I was giving him a disgust look when he pulled an id-card from his pocket. He raised his eyebrows and moved the card in front of me like pendulum. He did that so gracefully that I was stuck in his eyes for a while.

Lizard Boy- “Is it yours princess?”

I was relieved to see my card. “Yes” I mumbled excitedly and extended my hand towards his direction. But before I could hold it he pulled back his hand “Ahh...princess not so easy, first answer my question.”

Me- “huh...94”

Lizard Boy- “that means 49” An amused smile played over his face. “Okay...let’s stop it here. Here is an assignment, copy it neat n clean in A4 size papers. Most importantly complete it by the day after tomorrow. Got it?”

Me- “sorry, I can’t complete it. I have my assignment also” I tried to keep my voice polite.

Lizard Boy- “If you need your Id-card, then you must have to complete this. I will come the day after tomorrow. Till then complete it and I will return your card.”

Before I could protest any more He left that place with his gang, who did nothing except enjoying the show.

Muskan- “That was so dramatic...and quite unique. Look apy how much attention you got. I wish if I was in your place.”

Pakshy- “Musu will you please shut up??? Now what will you do apy” she looked at me with concerned look.

Rosni- “Apy, it’s okay...we all will help you” She patted my shoulder and Anchal nodded with her.

Please don't make things difficult for me......

It’s like I don’t have any option
But I will get my revenge on you definitely......

LIVES OF KINGS

Author-: Lucy Leiderman
Pages-: 384
Expected publication: December 16th 2014 by Dundurn

Story Line-:

After discovering that she had a past life full of magic in Britannia thousands of years ago, Gwen must race against time to stop three ancient magicians who threaten to tear the world apart.

Having won a battle to save her own magic from being enslaved in Lives of Magic, Gwen is still reeling from memories of her past life and challenges her present one. Alone without the one she trusted most, she gathers her friends to search for others like her — those that can destroy the magicians once and for all.

But will the lure of infinite power be too much to resist, even for those sworn to protect?

As Gwen's group begins to fracture amidst division and millennia-old rivalry, reality starts to blur with the past until the lines between family, friend and enemy are no longer clear. Gwen needs to find the key to defeating the magicians before they recover their power — or else surrender to her past life’s magic and lose herself forever.

My Review-:

“Lives of kings” is the sequel of “lives of magic”. At first I didn’t feel connected to this book, because so many things were happening simultaneously so I decided to read the first book. After finishing two books my expression was “This series is wonderful!!!”
The book is full of action, magic, travel and smattering of romance, which will restrict you to leave the book alone. But there is more going for this novel than just solid, intensive research into Celtic myths and culture.
Readers who enjoy a story with latent historical elements, or contemporary fantasy would no doubt pick this one right up.

About this author-:

Lucy Leiderman was born on a naval base in Kaliningrad, Russia and raised in Toronto, Canada. A fan of all things mythological from an early age, she began writing stories as a child. As an adult and avid traveller, she infuses her writing with magic and compelling settings. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree from Uppsala Universitet.

I will give four out of five stars to this book.

NOTE: if you have not read the first book then i will suggest you not to prefer the second one.

PRIVATE INDIA

Image from Google

Book: Private India

Authors: Ashwin Sanghi & James Patterson
Genre: Fiction (Mystery/Thriller)
Published by: Arrow Books
No. of pages: 447
Cover price: Rs. 350

Story Line-:
Private India is India’s biggest and best detective agency, a branch of Private Worldwide, run by Jack Morgan.  Santosh Wagh heads Private India. Murders in the Mumbai city clearly show the work of a serial killer; the killer has chosen its victim randomly, without any connections and with strange props placed in the death scene.

Santosh Wagh is running out of time. He has to stop the killer before the killer finds its next victim. Not only that private India seems to be in great danger along with thousands of innocents.

Ashwin Sanghi and James Patterson have teamed up for the first time to bring ‘private’ series to India. It’s the 8th book of the popular series.

The plotline of this novel was convincing but the story progressed in a twist and turn manner. Some mysteries baffled me as some characters have multiple personalities. The mysteries start to unfold in the second half of the book.

Thumbs up-:
The book is written by two people, who are polished in their own field, so the book is well conjured up. The writing is very detailed and every minute detail is specified with perfection. The reader automatically starts to picturing things while reading.

Image from Google

Some of the lines which I really liked-:
"Unlike a piece of wood which can turn out too short when you cut it, if a piece of metal is botched, we simply wait, reheat, and give it another go. There are always second chances-both in metal and in men."

"Life has no meaning without the presence of death. Life is simply the absence of death. The fools of this world labour to prevent death, unmindful of the fact that it is death that will set them free."

Thumbs down-:
It’s very difficult for me to detect the thumbs down portion but I think there is only one thing that strokes my mind; the novel is dividing in to two parts so as the story. The first and last few chapters can give you goose bumps but in the middle a reader may lost as so many characters will come across a reader and so many things will occur at a time.

Characters-:
I think there are so many characters with their background stories. But Except Santose Wagh all are easily forgettable. The cameo appearance of Jack Morgan, who is the head of Private and recruited all of them for the Indian branch of private, was also unnecessary.

Image from Google

A fast read and a page turner, Private India might be ready for its sequels and I hope Ashwin and James sure can come up with many more cases, some related to the mythological suspense of India, which Private India can handle with Santosh. I also think that the novel can also be add to the bollywood diaries.
So I will give this Novel 4 out of 5 stars for its writers, who have made it marvelous for the readers.

A STUPID THING CALLED LOVE(#2)

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”

( Note - This is the Second chapter of "A stupid thing called love". I will post its chapters in every week, so have patient.... as the story will continue in weekly manner )

Chapter-2
(APEKSHYA)

The morning sky was filled with storm clouds. I predicted about some unusual thing is going to happen. Starting a new college was too tiring and of course the last few days weren’t too bad except the lizard boy incident.

Making my way up to the bus stop, I saw Pakshy waving at me (Pakshy and I shared the same bus to go to college). I smiled and waved back at her.

Pakshy- “Hey do you know that one direction is going to release its new album? Yapaa....”
She screamed in joy. She was a die-hard fan of one direction just like Rosni of SRK and Harry Potter.

Me-  “Really!!!” I said with an artificial excited face. Ohhh GOD, I’m a conversation killer. Pakshy also realised it. By that time our bus had also arrived. In our bus we loved to listening music in an earphone, and started our conversation in loud voice.

As I predicted, that day our section had decided to make a mass bunk. So I requested all to eat ice-cream and we five moved towards the ice-cream parlor.
I started chatting with friends, bag-pack on both my shoulders and simultaneously licking the delicious cornetto ice-cream.
Me- “Why are they doing this mass bunk so soon? I mean it’s only 5th day of our college na?” I asked with a concerned face.

Rosni- “Umm I don’t mind apy (apy is the pet name given by my friends), and don’t worry, nothing will happen. We can gossip the whole afternoon.” I nodded as a response. I almost jumped and yelled excitedly waving my right hand as I saw an aeroplane fly away. (It’s my thing that I can’t control myself when a plane passes by....I know it’s embarrassing for a 17 year old girl)

Meanwhile a group of four boys were passing by in the opposite direction of us...seeing my childish act they laughed out loudly; one of them even mimicked my act. We all were embarrassed of course, Anchal was starting to protest something but Rosni dragged her out of that place and rest of us also escaped out of there quickly fearing of ragging, assuming they were seniors.

Muskan- “I told you a thousand times apy, to behave properly outside. Such an idpd...they are seniors, if they will remember us then what will we do?” by that time Muskan was furious but my mind was in the middle of processing about the things that happened.

Me- “Guys why is that I have a weird feeling about it?” I asked in expressionless, still processing the incident in my mind.

Pakshy- “Of course dear....You not only embarrassed yourself but also us. So how can you feel well” She told in a retorted manner.

Me- “Now I remember....umm...was not HE that lizard boy!!! It means he is from our college and he is a senior.” fear started to engulf me and I had lost my interest in ice-cream.

Rosni suggested going to the library to change our mood and that is when I realized that I had lost my Id-card somewhere.

On our second meeting, You turned my day down.......

The worst day of my life, I started to sob silently.
WHY IS THAT I’M MEETING HIM AGAIN........

A STUPID THING CALLED LOVE(#1)

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”

( Note - This is the first chapter of "A stupid thing called love". I will post its chapters in every week, so have patient.... as the story will continue in weekly manner)

 CHAPTER- 1
(APEKSHYA)
I just love the way my life goes on. I love to learn, not to study, as I think of it as fun. So I joined engineering as it has no study load. Let me introduce myself, I am Apekshya,17 years old, favorite color changes according to my mood, favorite movie depends on the rating, height around 5’6 and I’m just an average looking girl, quite sensitive and quite emotional too.

It was a Sunday. So we five friends decided to go on a trip to puri. Before that, let me introduce my friends to you: Rosni (very talkative, smiley face, wears spectacle, never listens to important things and always forgets something), Pakshy (very sweet, kind hearted girl, responsible and most importantly loves to study), Muskan (shortly Miss. Drama queen, she can give a hundred expressions in one minute) and Anchal (straight forward yet innocently sweet inside but sometimes her straight forwardness make us feel embarrassed).

Back to our trip, then. That day I came a little late to bus stop so all the four of them had already occupied their seats (Rosni with Anchal and Pakshy with Muskan). I was left alone, so making an angry face I sat with a stranger!!!(He was a stranger, but until now.)

That time I decided not to talk with any one of them. Of course how can they ditch me like that? And I drank water to calm myself.
Suddenly my gaze fell on my lap and there, I found a lizard. I jumped the next moment screamingly and unconsciously threw all the water towards that stranger (actually I don’t like animals except cats but a lizard, seriously!!!)

Stranger- With a terribly angry face he started shouting at me “WHAT DID YOU DO? Don’t you have any manners? Oh god! I have an important program today. Listen, Miss you have to compensate for it.”

Me- (at that time all I managed to say was) “sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you but there was a lizard on my lap and I...um...”

Stranger- He did not let me complete my sentence “wait, a lizard!!! Did you mean this” he showed me that lizard. “Miss this is not a real one” then he stretch its tail to show me that it was made of rubber.

Me- that was enough, beyond my control and I wanted to throw him out of that bus or slap him with my sandal “LISTEN YOU; I did not know that it was not real, and nobody could guess that. So you better keep that in your bag and sit silently.

Stranger- “Sorry I can’t hear that and I need my compensation. You are the one who spilt water on me and then you are the one who insult me in front of these people.”
And I was completely unaware of the people staring at us; some with shocking look, some with a look of disgust and some with an angry look. At that time I couldn’t read my friends expression. We were fighting like pre-elementary students; he was ready to push me into a gutter and I was ready to kick him as hard as possible.

Before I could protest anything the bus conductor came and threw us out of the bus. Obviously my friends also silently co-operated me and got down with me. We stared at each other briefly before leaving on our own way.
