LOVE FOR ETERNITY

I grabbed a coffee and started moving forward to the book shop, my favorite place where I spend my quality time. “I need to relax,” I was convincing myself as my blind date went pretty bad. This happens every time; my parents arrange blind dates for match-making purpose but every time I disappoint them.

I was completely preoccupied by my thoughts when someone’s ‘hi’ brought me back to the reality. I observed he was staring at me. “Do I know you?” I asked out of curiosity. “Not necessarily, but can you tell me where is Cyrano’s bookshop?”He snapped. “Hmm....I’m going there, you can come with me. Are you new here because I never saw you in that book store?” I asked another one question. “Ya, I’m new in this place. By the way I’m Subham.” I replied with a smile “I’m Megha, nice to meet you”. We shake hands firmly.

After 10 minutes of more walking, we finally reached at the bookshop. There we parted our ways; I walked towards the fantasy section and he went to the literature section. I leaned by the shelf to have a proper look of him. He was tall, muscular and quite handsome. Then I returned my focus on books.

I loved to live in a fairy tale and a world full of fantasies. I believed that vampires, werewolves, and witches existed, and even Harry Potter. And my list of paranormal creatures which co-exist with us goes on.

I selected my book and again met him on bill counter. “So what did you pick?” I enquired. “The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne,” he hushed, “hey, what are you doing after this? If you have nothing special to do, then have a coffee with me?” He offered with an innocent look. “Hmm,” I responded.

Within minutes we had silently made our exit from the bookshop and headed towards the cafe. For the next two hours we talked about our schooling, likes, dislikes, families and point of views on some topics. I realized that we have a plenty in common like we both love to read, cappuccino is our favorite drink and horror is our favorite genre in movie, we were the toppers of our corresponding classes and we share a mutual respect. I realized that I like him. So we both agreed on meeting in future and exchanged our contact numbers.

That coffee shop turned our regular meeting place. It’s hard to determine the exact moment when I started falling for Subham. I send him minimum twenty messages per day; starting from Good morning to Good night to my where abouts. Every day seemed beautiful and we started to explore different places in Kolkata.

One Saturday we met at the Howrah Bridge. That day he seemed serious so I asked, “What happened?” His gaze rested on me for a brief minute. “Do you believe in me?” His question made me assertive. “Hmm....More than you know.” I also matched my gaze with him. “I’m going now. Do you want to follow me?” He said urgently. “I will follow you to the eternity,” my soul whispered. He slipped his hand in mine and we started to move forward to the edge of the Bridge. Together we jumped off the Bridge.

The reporters were asking millions of questions to the police. “Why did she commit suicide?”, “Is this a suicide or homicide?”, “Can you tell us more about it?”, “How does it impact on her family?” The questions were retorted from the reporters. The police finally confirmed that senior physician Dr. P.K. Basu will answer all the questions.

Dr Basu drank a sip of water placed in front of him and started “Megha Ghose was my patient for more than one year. One n half years ago she lost a guy named Subham Banergee in an accident with who she was madly in love. After that dreadful incident she was in severe depression for nine months and that has led her to visual hallucinations. We traced her mobile she was sending messages to a blocked number. We enquired the owner of a coffee shop where she came frequently, ordered two cappuccinos and started talking with no one. All these incidents indicate that it wasn’t a murder rather a suicide.”

The reporters left the place and the police thanked Dr Basu for calming the reporters.
